From the article: A 200-pound person falling from a height of only six feet hits the ground with almost 10,000 pounds of force. Falls led to 197 of the 595 construction deaths recorded in 2012, according to CPWR-The Center for Construction Research and Training. Through the first quarter of 2013, falls caused 37 of 95 recorded construction fatalities. In conjunction with the Campaign to Prevent Falls from Construction, OSHA is partnering with industry and community partners to lead “stand-downs” to raise awareness about falls in construction. From OSHA’s QuickTakes: Last week, OSHA, the Builders Association, Construction Safety Council, the Chicago Area Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust, construction contractors and other safety and health organizations sponsored numerous 30-minute safety stand downs at construction sites throughout the Chicago area. From June 24 to July 3, OSHA’s Region II is inviting the construction industry to participate in a voluntary “Falls in Construction” Stand-Down. Read the rest of the news item...

ACTA Safety has begun a two week training initiative in the Phoenix, AZ area. They hope to reach at least 100 workers by the end of the week, educating workers on both the dangers of falls and heat awareness, with training materials being provided in both English and Spanish.
